Future Seekers History
Future Seekers Teen Ministry began in October of 1994. Steve and Darla Adams moved to northern MN from a 11 year stint as Youth Pastor and director of Pro-Teens Youth Ministry in the Kansas City area.
The name Future Seekers and the ministry logo was chosen by Wendy Heppner Downey as she submitted her entry in a "Name The Yough Ministry" contest. The motto for Future Seekers, "Seeking the Future God has for us" was created by long time Sr. High Sunday School teacher and all around "youth guy", Dan Myrick! Dan and Tammy also help man the hotline phones along with providing steady leadership in Future Seekers Teen Ministry.
Future Seekers Teen Ministry as it's name indicates, operates on the belief that every teen has a bright future and each teen can live out that future by seeking direction from the only one who can give them purpose......Jesus Christ! Christ provides for all teens who acknowledge Him as personal Savior a gaurantee of eternal life in Heaven and purpose for living here on earth (John 10:10).
Relationship building is of utmost importance in the ministry of Future Seekers. A teen spells love and acceptance T-I-M-E. Many hours are devoted to the goal of getting to know teenagers in the area on a personal basis by inviting them and their friends over for pizza, tacos or whatever they like.....yes.....even roast and potatoes and mac and cheese have been requested. Why those were requested we do not know, but.... Whatever. It is vitally important that anyone who wants to develop a relationship with a teen realize the place to do that is on the teens own "turf". This includes numerous visits to plays, concerts, school lunch (we go for the food...yea right!), sporting events and wherever you will find a teen doing what they like to do!
While Future Seekers has experienced a very steady growth (we have out grown 1 Sunday School classroom, 2 youth group meeting places and 1 FCA meeting place), the future looks even better as we strive to "Make a Difference" as we go up the "Next Step" in the ministry. Plans are being made to develop a community wide Drop in Center, Coffee House and Teen Counseling Center all in one location in Warroad. This will allow further ministry opportunities to develop and help us reach out to more teens than we can possibly include now.
It is our goal that Future Seekers Teen Ministry makes a positive impact on many students in the northern part of Minnesota. An impact that would have eternal value by pointing teens toward their Creator, and a deeper relationship with Him. It is the desire of Steve and Darla that every teen feels comfortable in seeking out advice, friendship and spiritual guidance from the ministry of Future Seekers.
